One morning, Nasreddin left his house with six donkeys to go to the market. After a time, he got tired and got on to one of them. He counted the donkeys, and there were only five, so he got off and went to look for the sixth. He looked and looked, but didn’t find it, so he went back to the donkeys and counted them again. This time there were six, so he got on to one of them again and they all stated.

After a few minutes he counted the donkeys again and again, there were only five. While he was counting again, a friend of his passed. Nasreddin said to him, I left my house with six donkeys. Then, I had five. Then, I had six again, and now I have only five. “Look! One, two, three, four, five”.  “But Nasreddin,” his friend said, “you are sitting on a donkey, too! That is the sixth, and you are the seventh.

Once upon a time, there was a poor boy came into village. He was very hungry. He knocked the door and asked for some food but nobody cared about him.

One day, an old woman helped him. She gave him shelter and meals. When the boy wanted to leave, he asked the old woman to prepare a “lesung”, a big wooden mortar for pounding rice, and said, if there is a flood, save yourself. Use this “lesung” as a boat. “Then the boy thanked the old woman and left her house.

Then the little boy continued his journey. While he was passing through the village, he saw many people gathering on the field. The boy came closer and saw a stick stuck in the ground. Everybody, tried to pull it out, but nobody succeeded. Then the little boy wanted to try. This crowd laughed to him. The boy stepped forward and pulled out the stick. He could do it very easy. Suddenly, water came out of the hole. It didn’t   stop until it flooded the village. And no one was saved from the water except the little boy and the generous old woman who gave him shelter and meals. The old woman used the lesung as a boat. The whole village became a huge lake. It is now known as RawaPening Lake in Salatiga.

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey, they had different argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.

The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand “Today my best friend slapped me in the face”.

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone “Today my best friend saved my life”.

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now you write on a stone, why?” The other friend replied “When someone hurts us, we should write it down in the sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”

Moral: Do not value the things you have in your life. But value who you have in your life.
